Mobilities, Futures and the City (MFC) is a research project led by Professor Sven Kesselring (Aalborg University, Denmark) and Associate Professor Malene Freudendal-Pedersen (Roskilde University, Denmark). The project is funded by the Mobile Lives Forum, an institute initiated by the French state-owned railway company SNCF.

MFC has been developed as a contribution to the discussion on a reflexive methodology for planning in the mobile risk society. It is considered an experimental project which provides an environment where planners, decision-makers from politics and industry, and artists can together develop powerful ‘stories’ on the good mobile life in our future cities.

Through this research project we intend to generate new methodological insights on how to deal with the uncertainties and ambivalences on the future of urban mobilities. MFC provides the setting for two future workshops in Copenhagen and Munich entitled Mobilities, Future & the City – How can we make life sustainable by 2030?. In a playful and creative way the two workshops gather two groups of influential movers from different disciplines and rationalities, which have the goal of approaching and finding formulations for future mobilities.
